Self Pity
I never saw a wild thing
sorry for itself.
A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough
without ever having felt sorry for itself.

NOOOO
too soon.
I ran 5k today and felt pretty great about it. I did it in 26:41 and felt really accomplished and satisfied at the end. Then I googled “good times for a 5k” and apparently 26:41 is a really crappy time. Better luck next time.
**Edit: I ran 5k today on a treadmill. Apparently this makes the feat even more diminutive. Thanks Matt.**
Adventures in personal injury
I went to starbucks this morning after a hiatus of about 3 weeks. When I arrived they had just finished brewing a fresh batch of coffee. As I walked out of the store, some of my coffee started to spill out the top, so I leaned over and slurped up some of the escaped coffee. I underestimated my sucking power, and inadvertently sucked up a large mouthful of coffee from the underlying pool of liquid....
I got caught out in a downpour without an umbrella tonight. I was soaked from head to toe, but surprisingly, I didn’t hate it.

I didn’t end up ordering the prix fixe special, but got a cheeseburger instead, and a mimosa separately. The cheeseburger wasn’t bad, but I’ve...
I need to be burped right now.
Never-nude.
I am not ok with people walking around naked in the locker room. If I owned a gym, I would implement a policy to expressly prohibit this. I remember being traumatized as a young child in the YMCA and seeing gross older people showering/walking around in the nude. I would make bathing suits mandatory in showers, and a never nude rule throughout the rest of the locker room.

Overthinking is a sure path to an absence of clarity. Little good ever comes out of processing the same thing over and over and over again, because after a point, the thing becomes whatever we imagine it to be. Like overchewing a piece of meat, we’re left with a sore, aching jaw, and the tasteless, mangled remains of what was once flavorful. In like manner, revisiting an idea or a...
